Parel - The BMC F/South ward office came down heavily on confiscated hand carts on Thursday, demolishing 75 of these which had been seized in August.

Lack of space forces the BMC to store these confiscated carts at godowns at different places in the city. Civic officials say that several illegal handcarts are confiscated every month, but are recovered by the owners on payment of a nominal fine. This does not help in curbing the menace of handcarts that are parked on footpaths and roads, inconveniencing residents, particularly in congested areas around the Hindmata cinema, KEM and Wadia hospitals. Demolition of the confiscated handcarts, the civic body believes, will help in curbing the menace.

Present during the drive were ward officer Vishwas Mote along with BMC security guard Vilas Pandirkar along with civic workers.
