On Thursday, February 25, the twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli witnessed the highest single-day jump in daily coronavirus cases in the last four months.
According to the latest data provided by Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), the area under civic body limits has recorded 227 new cases of COVID-19, which is the highest in 126 days. Previously, 293 cases were reported in a single day on October 18, 2020.
At present, there are 1,414 active cases in the civic body limits and a whopping 60,000 patients have been discharged so far.
Out of the 227 cases, 34 are from Kalyan East, 96 from Kalyan West, 53 from Dombivli East, 37 from Dombivli West, four from Manda Titwala and three are from Mohna.
In a bid to encourage people to get themselves tested to contain the spread of the virus, the civic body has ordered all chemists and pharmacists to not sell medicines without proper prescription until further notice. Also, the authorities have urged citizens to maintain a record of people buying such medicines.
Moreover, the civic body officials said that the positivity rate in Kalyan and Dombivli has gone up because the number of daily tests has also been increased. Besides, elderly patients have been strictly restricted to take home quarantine as an option.
A renewed outbreak of the virus can only be prevented if the citizens observe COVID-appropriate behaviour in public and follow all the safety norms laid down by the government.
