Many people enjoy keeping fish in home aquariums, and the number of such enthusiasts has grown significantly in recent years. However, when these fish fall ill, they often do not receive proper treatment, leading to unnecessary deaths. To address this, the state is launching its first Fish Health and Diagnosis Clinic, starting from Versova.

The decision was made during a meeting of the District Planning Committee on Tuesday, chaired by Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar. The committee proposed a fund of INR 1,497 crore for suburban development and approved INR 50 lakh specifically for the fish clinic initiative.

This clinic aims to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment of fish diseases, helping enthusiasts avoid financial losses, promoting ornamental fishing, and supporting sustainable fish farming.

The meeting was attended by Mumbai Suburban Co-Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, District Collector Saurabh Katiyar, along with all local MPs, MLAs, and senior officials.

The clinic in Versova will cater to aquaculture, ornamental, and pet fish, providing specialized and accessible healthcare facilities. Under this project, the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) will operate a fish hospital, mobile fish clinics for on-site services, telehealth consultation through digital platforms, and home-based healthcare services for pet and ornamental fish.
