During a statewide inspection conducted by the health department, 23,454 private hospitals were checked. Authorities found that 4,538 hospitals had violated regulations, mainly by not displaying their treatment rate cards or by showing inconsistent pricing information.
According to officials, hospitals are legally required to clearly display the cost of medical services so that patients are aware of the charges before treatment. This rule is intended to maintain transparency and prevent overcharging.
Hospitals that violated the rule were given one month to correct the issues. After follow-up inspections, six hospitals failed to comply, leading authorities to cancel their registrations.
Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar stated that the inspections were carried out by local supervisory authorities to ensure that private hospitals follow regulations and protect patients from unfair billing practices.
The government has warned that strict action will continue against hospitals that do not follow the required norms.
