The state transport department has prepared a proposal to set up as many as 60 traffic gardens across Maharashtra. Each park is expected to cost around Rs 1 crore, announced Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.
In view of the increasing road accidents in the state, the state government has taken an important decision to create awareness about traffic rules at a young age.
At least one transport park will be set up in each district. Emphasis will be laid on educating the students about traffic rules through hands-on experience. The parks will have small roads, zebra crossings, traffic signals, signage and small vehicle models. This will explain the traffic rules to the children while playing.
The parks will be open not only for students but also for the general public. This will help in creating wider awareness about traffic discipline and safety. The transport department has expressed confidence that this initiative will be important for responsible drivers in the future.
A trial track facility will also be made available for driving license training in the parks. Further, admission to schools will be given in a timely manner to avoid crowding and a nominal fee will be charged by the concerned local bodies.
The message of environmental conservation will also be conveyed through this initiative. Rare tree species from across the country will be planted in the parks. There will also be information about the importance of those trees in the environment. Along with traffic rules, lessons on environmental conservation will also be imparted to the citizens.
