The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation’s (MSRTC) National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) has registered more than 62.86 lakh passengers across Maharashtra, while over 35.52 lakh cards have been activated as of June 30, according to Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.

The state government has announced that the NCMC smart card will become mandatory from August 1, 2026, for women, senior citizens, and beneficiaries under the Amrit Senior Citizen category in order to avail travel concessions on MSRTC buses. Officials have urged eligible passengers who are yet to complete registration or activation to do so at authorised centres before the deadline to avoid any inconvenience in accessing benefits.

Strong response to NCMC initiative

Official figures show that 6,286,765 passengers have registered under the NCMC scheme across Maharashtra, while 3,552,332 smart cards have been activated so far. Authorities expect the remaining registered users to complete activation in the coming weeks as enrolment drives continue across the state.

The NCMC programme is part of MSRTC’s broader effort to modernise its ticketing system, digitise passenger services, and ensure a more streamlined and transparent distribution of concession benefits.

Regional performance across Maharashtra

Among MSRTC divisions, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar region has recorded the highest participation, with 1,593,256 registrations and 886,473 activated cards.

Pune follows with 1,471,436 registrations, while the Nashik region has reported 1,438,069 registrations, reflecting widespread adoption of the initiative ahead of its mandatory rollout.

District-wise trends

At the district level, Jalgaon leads with 463,230 registrations. It is followed by Ahilyanagar with 395,515, Satara with 348,418, Solapur with 342,242, Buldhana with 331,011, and Beed with 327,709 registrations.

Officials noted that registration and activation campaigns are being intensified across all divisions to ensure maximum coverage before the deadline.

Mandatory rollout from August 1

From August 1 onwards, the NCMC smart card will be compulsory for eligible women, senior citizens, and Amrit category beneficiaries to claim travel concessions on MSRTC services.

Transport authorities have appealed to passengers who have not yet enrolled to complete the process at the earliest. Special drives are also being planned in the coming weeks to ensure pending registrations are activated before the system becomes mandatory.
