Mumbai’s Metro Line 4 project has reached an important construction milestone with the successful installation of three massive steel spans weighing a total of 325 metric tonnes at Bhandup West, according to officials.

The complex operation was carried out by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as part of the Wadala–Thane–Kasarvadavali Metro Line 4 corridor. The work involved the use of eight heavy-duty cranes and 12 multi-axle vehicles, along with meticulous planning and coordination.

Although the installation was initially expected to take four nights, the team completed the task in just two nights, showcasing efficient execution. Around 35 engineers, more than 100 skilled workers, 70 traffic wardens, and over 25 police personnel were deployed to ensure smooth progress and manage traffic during the operation.

Officials described the achievement as a significant engineering feat that will help accelerate further construction on the corridor. Metro Line 4, along with its extension Line 4A, is progressing in phases, and preparations for safety certification are underway, raising expectations that sections of the line could become operational in the coming months.
