Mumbai temperature witnesses a decline

On Mumbai’s weather update, the minimum temperature in the city has dropped by 3 degrees. Also, a minimum temperature of 20 degrees has been recorded in some places across the city. However, the maximum temperature dropped by only one degree.

On Thursday, December 3, the minimum temperature dropped to 20 degrees Celsius in Santacruz, Powai. The minimum temperature at Charkop, Kandivali and Mulund was recorded at 21 degrees. However, the maximum temperature in the city has not dropped much in the last two days.

According to the India Meteorological Department, December is the coldest month in Mumbai. The lowest temperature recorded in the last 10 years was 11.4 degrees Celsius which was clocked on December 27, 2011. Also, all records below the minimum temperature of 20 degrees are found in the last week of December.

Meanwhile, last week's cyclone Nivar off the coast of Tamil Nadu saw a sharp drop in maximum temperatures coupled with cloudy weather across the state.

On the other hand, according to the India Meteorological Department, on Tuesday, December 1, the Santacruz weather observatory recorded the second-highest minimum temperature during December in 11 years at 24.4 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Celsius above normal).

Back in 2019, Mumbai had recorded 25.3 degrees Celsius on December 5, equaling the minimum temperature recorded on December 2, 2013, both are currently the highest in 10 years. On December 1, 2008, Mumbai had recorded 25.2 degrees Celsius. In other years, between 2009 and 2018, the highest minimum temperature ranged between 20.8 degrees Celsius and 23.6 degrees Celsius.
