The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has officially approved the development of a dog park for pet owners in the city. The park will be build beneath a newly constructed metro flyover. The decision has been welcomed by animal lovers across the area.
The location was chosen to make use of unused urban space. The municipal body has already issued work orders to the contractor. Development work is expected to begin soon.
The dog park will include several facilities for both pets and their owners. These will include pet-friendly restrooms and feeding stations. There will be play zones equipped with toys and agility equipment for dogs. Seating and relaxation areas will also be created for owners while their pets interact. It will allow pet owners and animal lovers to meet and share experiences.
At present, the city manages a large population of both pet and stray dogs. The civic body has already introduced several animal welfare measures. These include health and safety programmes for animals. A dedicated veterinary hospital and a sterilisation centre are already in operation. The administration also conducts vaccination drives. A formal licensing policy for pet owners is in place.
In addition to the dog park, the corporation is planning a separate shelter for stray dogs. Land has been identified in Uttan for this purpose. The land is currently under the control of the District Collector. The civic body will submit a formal proposal to the government to get the land.
