Kite flying during Makar Sankrant injures about 100 birds

Makar Sankranti festival marks the arrival of spring and hence flying kites, preparing sweets is carried out to celebrate the festival. But, this very kite festival proves harmful to the birds. 

Parel’s 'The Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA)' have admitted more than 100 injured birds on Saturday and Sunday. On the other hand, more than 60 birds were treated on roads.

Amongst injured birds, pigeons are the most, informed BSPCA officials.

On the day and after Sankrant festival, we get a lot of bird injury cases.

This year too, more than 100 birds were brought to the hospital. A lot of bird lovers bring injured birds to our hospital.”

Dr. Khanna added that in comparison to last year, this year less number of birds got injured.
