Ahead of the upcoming Ganesh festival, the Mumbai Police has announced a comprehensive security deployment plan under which around 17,000 police personnel will be deployed across the city.
According to the deployment details released on Monday, August 25, 2,637 officers, including 36 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 51 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and station in-charges will monitor the arrangements. Additionally, 14,430 constables will be deployed at Ganesh mandals across the city.
Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) and a few teams have been formed to keep an eye on the city to ensure there is no untoward incident during the celebrations, an official said.
Deployment at key locations:
Apart from the Mumbai Police, contingents of the Specially Trained Force, State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Quick Reaction Team (QRT), Riot Control Force (RCF), Delta, Combat and Home Guards will also be deployed at important places.
A special security arrangement has also been planned for Ganesh idol immersion processions, with additional police deployment at beaches and seashores for those days, said an official. The personnel will be deployed at major immersion sites, including Girgaon Chowpatty, Dadar, Juhu, Marve, Versova and Powai lakes, as well as along key procession routes likely to witness heavy traffic.
Mumbai Police has urged all citizens to cooperate with authorities, especially at crowded locations, and to immediately report any unattended items or suspicious objects.
