The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed only 28.87% of the total road concreting work planned for mumbai as of May 21. Out of the 2121 roads listed in both phase I and phase II of the project, only 390 roads have been fully concretised.

A total of 989 roads are still under construction. On 728 roads, no work has started yet or the work is currently on hold. The BMC has only nine days left to finish the work before the May 31 deadline.

On Wednesday, the BMC stopped all new Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) work under the Cement Concrete Road Project. No fresh road concreting will take place this season. All remaining work will continue after the monsoon season.

To make sure that roads are usable before the rains, contractors have been told to use mastic asphalt. This temporary layer will make the roads motorable during the monsoon.

The contractors must begin this asphalt work by May 25. If they fail to do so, the BMC will hand over the work to another contractor. The original contractor will also be fined double the cost of the pending work.

As per reports, the goal is to make the roads usable from one junction to the next. With 71% of the roads still unfinished, people have raised serious concerns about the quality and speed of the work. They have blamed the civic body for poor planning, lack of control, and weak accountability.
