Sixteen drivers selected for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project will undergo a one-year training programme in Japan to learn the operational and technical aspects of running high-speed trains.
The training is part of preparations for the country’s first bullet train service, which will connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The selected drivers will receive specialised instruction based on Japan’s Shinkansen system, including train operations, safety procedures and emergency response.
The programme is expected to help Indian personnel gain hands-on experience with high-speed rail operations and adopt Japan’s established safety standards.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project is being developed with Japanese technical cooperation. The training of Indian drivers in Japan is an important step towards preparing the workforce required to operate the service once the corridor becomes operational.
