Due to heavy rains for the last two to three days and wind blowing from the sea towards the land, the poisonous blue bottle like jellyfish has started to appear on Mumbai's Girgaon Chowpatty. In the past few years, many tourists have been injured by the bite of this blue bottle.
The Blue Bottle is a sea creature named after its size and appearance. Meanwhile, three types of jelly-like organisms are found in Mumbai's marine ecosystem. In certain environments they come along the coast. Before monsoons, 'Blue Buttons', 'Blue Bottles' during monsoons and 'Box' jellies appear on the shore after the rains subside. The blue bottle is known to be toxic to the organism. These sea creatures are seen on the beaches of Mumbai during monsoons. Blue bottle reproduction has increased as ocean temperatures have increased. Also, due to the increasing garbage in the sea, they also get a lot of food. Blue Bottles come at Girgaon, Juhu, Versova, Aksa and Dadar beaches in Mumbai. Two days ago, the blue bottle was spotted by marine ecology experts on the shores of Girgaon Chowpatty.

Meanwhile, blue bottle's venomous filaments (shundak) bite humans if touched. This bite is very painful. Most of them seem dead when they come ashore, but they can still bite. If a human comes in contact with these threads, it causes red spots on the skin and burns. Sometimes the bitten area becomes swollen and painful. These creatures use their bite to hunt and defend themselves. Last year, six tourists were stung by jellyfish at Juhu Chowpatty.
What to do if bitten?
A blue bottle bite requires prompt medical treatment. Do not rub the bitten area, pour isolated sea water or warm water on the bitten area. It is necessary to carefully remove the thorns, blue threads embedded in the skin and immediately go to the nearest hospital for further treatment. With proper treatment, the pain subsides and the injury heals within one to two hours.
