A fire broke out late Sunday night at an under-construction section of Metro Line-2B in Mumbai, prompting an immediate emergency response from project personnel and the Mumbai Fire Brigade. No injuries or structural damage were reported in the incident.

According to officials, the fire was reported at around 10:52 pm on June 15 near P-400 (LHS), Pylon-4, Level 4 of the Metro Line-2B construction site. The blaze involved wooden shuttering (Doka) materials used in construction activities.

The site emergency response team, along with the Mumbai Fire Brigade, swiftly brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading further. Authorities confirmed that no workers were injured and that the metro structure remained unaffected.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and is currently under investigation.

In a statement, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards safety lapses across all project sites and has initiated a detailed inquiry into the incident.

The affected package of Metro Line-2B is being executed by J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd under the supervision of the AICA Consortium, the project's general consultant. MMRDA stated that any violations of prescribed safety protocols by the agencies involved would invite appropriate action in accordance with contractual obligations and applicable regulations.

Officials added that safety remains the highest priority for the authority and that preventive measures have been further strengthened across project sites to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

Metro Line-2B, one of Mumbai's key infrastructure projects, is expected to improve east-west connectivity across the metropolitan region upon completion.
