Two separate fire incidents were reported in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Wednesday morning, July 15, including a major blaze at a school in Mira Road and another at a commercial premises in Kandivali (West). No injuries or fatalities were reported in either incident.
A major fire broke out at the N.L. Dalmia Education Institute in Mira Road during the early hours, severely damaging the top floor of the school building. The blaze destroyed the auditorium, library, science laboratories and several classrooms, dealing a significant blow to the institution's infrastructure.
The fire was reported around 6 am at the school, located near the ISKCON Temple and Bhaktivedanta Hospital. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky as flames engulfed the upper floors, with videos from the scene showing firefighters using hydraulic ladders to tackle the blaze.

According to Chief Fire Officer Prakash Borade, the fire is believed to have started in the auditorium before spreading to the battery backup room on the sixth floor. Both sections were completely gutted.
School authorities acted swiftly to evacuate students and staff, ensuring everyone was brought to safety. Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported.
Eight fire engines and four water tankers were pressed into service. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 90 minutes before bringing it under control, followed by extensive cooling operations to prevent the fire from reigniting.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Authorities will begin a detailed investigation after cooling operations are completed, while engineers are expected to assess the structural safety of the affected building.
In another incident at the same time, a fire broke out at a commercial establishment on Charkop Road, opposite Hindustan Naka in Kandivali (West).
The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the alert at 5.09 am and declared it a Level-I fire shortly thereafter. Firefighters managed to completely extinguish the blaze by 8.35 am after more than three hours of firefighting.
The fire was confined to electrical wiring, electrical installations and stored materials spread across nearly 5,000 square feet on each floor. Office furniture, records, computer accessories, laser machines, packing equipment, stocks of pens and corrugated boxes were destroyed in the blaze. A temporary monsoon shed, tarpaulin, bamboo structures and an electric bike parked in the open area were also damaged.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be established, and an investigation has been initiated.
The twin fire incidents kept emergency services on high alert across the Mumbai region on Wednesday, with firefighters successfully preventing both blazes from causing any loss of life despite extensive property damage.
