The Bombay High Court has upheld the life imprisonment sentence of a man convicted of repeatedly raping his minor daughter, rejecting his appeal against the 2020 conviction under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The father had claimed that his daughter falsely accused him out of anger after he forced her to discontinue her studies. The court, however, called this argument “too far-fetched” and dismissed it, emphasising the gravity of the crime and the betrayal of trust involved. The victim’s steadfast testimony was also highlighted by the court.

The girl first revealed the abuse in 2018 during a school outreach programme, leading to a police complaint and investigation. The special court had originally sentenced the father to life imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life, and the High Court’s decision now upholds that sentence.
