Of the proposed 30 lakh affordable homes, around 10 lakh will be constructed in Mumbai, including six lakh homes through the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and four lakh through MHADA and other housing schemes.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) as an important step towards facilitating redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings. The government is also promoting cluster redevelopment, which will include civic amenities such as digital libraries, community halls, primary health centres and women’s empowerment centres.
Shinde also outlined plans for the “Third Mumbai”, a large-scale development zone around Navi Mumbai International Airport, Atal Setu, JNPA and the Samruddhi Mahamarg. The project is envisioned to include specialised zones such as an Aerocity, Medicity, Sports City, EduCity and IT-fintech hubs.
