The first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 2B will be inaugurated on April 3. The residents of Chembur and Mankhurd had been demanding the opening of this 5.4-km-long line for a long time.
The first phase of the corridor includes a 5.4-km stretch between Diamond Garden in Chembur and Mandalay in Mankhurd. It includes five stations namely Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd and Mandalay.
The entire 23.6-km-long elevated Metro Line 2B corridor, which has 20 stations, will be connected to several major transport systems including the Western and Eastern Express Highways, the suburban rail network, the monorail and other metro corridors like Mumbai Metro Line 2A, Mumbai Metro Line 3 and Mumbai Metro Line 4.
Once the corridor is fully operational, the travel time on this route is expected to be reduced by up to 75 per cent.
The route between Chembur and Mankhurd, which is heavily congested, especially during peak hours, is expected to reduce the evening rush between Chembur and Mankhurd.
This will provide relief to office workers, students and senior citizens alike.
In Chembur, the opening of this route will make it easier to connect to popular places like Diamond Garden, K Star Mall, St. Anthony's High School, RCF Colony, Fine Arts Society and Chembur Railway Station.
