In a major relief for students, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has extended fare concessions on Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) to college and degree students. The move is aimed at making daily travel more affordable for thousands of students commuting across the city for higher education.
Under the revised scheme, eligible college and degree students will be able to avail discounted monthly travel passes on the Aqua Line. The concession is part of MMRC’s broader effort to encourage the use of public transport and reduce travel expenses for young commuters.
Metro Line 3, Mumbai’s fully underground metro corridor connecting Aarey and Cuffe Parade, has already introduced discounted passes for school students, persons with disabilities and regular commuters. The latest decision expands the benefit to students pursuing higher education.
According to MMRC, the discounted passes will be available through the MetroConnect3 platform and the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) system. The initiative is expected to make metro travel more accessible while promoting digital and contactless ticketing.
Officials said the concession scheme is designed to support students who rely on the metro for daily travel between their homes and educational institutions. With Metro Line 3 providing connectivity to key educational and commercial hubs across Mumbai, the discounted passes are expected to benefit a large number of students.
The move comes as MMRC continues efforts to boost ridership on the Aqua Line through various passenger-friendly initiatives, including discounted monthly passes and special travel packages.
