The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started permitting commercial film and advertisement shoots on the Metro Line 2B stretch between Diamond Garden and Mandale in a bid to increase non-fare revenue.
The decision comes as the corridor has been witnessing relatively low ridership, leading to lower-than-expected income from ticket sales.
Under a structured policy, production houses can use metro stations and trains for shoots by paying fixed charges.
The initiative has already generated around IN20 lakh in revenue in the current financial year, according to officials.
MMRDA said the move is part of a broader strategy to diversify earnings beyond passenger fares.
Authorities are also exploring additional revenue sources such as advertising, station branding, telecom services, and electric vehicle charging facilities to improve the financial sustainability of metro operations.
