With just days remaining before the June 26 deadline, nearly 80,000 registered street vendors in Mumbai have yet to complete verification and collect their QR code-based identity cards, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Of the 99,435 registered street vendors in the city, only around 20,000 have completed the verification process so far. The civic body has urged the remaining vendors to visit their respective ward offices immediately to verify their details and obtain the mandatory identity cards.

The QR code-based ID cards are being issued as part of a citywide drive initiated following directions from the Bombay High Court. The cards are intended to help authorities identify authorised vendors and improve regulation of street vending activities across Mumbai.

BMC officials have stated that no verification or distribution of QR code identity cards will take place after June 26. Vendors must carry their application acknowledgement receipt, original Aadhaar card, and two passport-sized photographs while completing the process.

To assist vendors, lists of registered beneficiaries have been displayed at all ward offices and shared with hawkers’ unions, elected representatives, and street vendor associations. The civic body has appealed to all eligible vendors to complete the process before the deadline to avoid future complications.
