Each year the potholes on Mumbai’s roads are fixed to prevent accident during the monsoon season. However, there are still complaints of potholes creating traffic issues and hindrance during the commute. Many have complained of roads covered with potholes.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had launched a massive campaign last year to fill the potholes and make road travel safer for Mumbaikars. However, this year, the civic body has turned a blind eye to the issue.
Due to the heavy rainfall and flooding, the potholes have emerged on Mumbai’s road in several parts of the city and several commuters have raised the issue using social media. However, the BMC has claimed that they have received complaints about only 500 potholes on its mobile application.
Although the movement of the roads is less due this year due to the coronavirus outbreak, the pothole issue still remains. Recently, there have been complaints of potholes being developed at the newly constructed SNDT Nullah bridge on Juhu Tara Road.
The bridge was closed for traffic last year as it was in a bad condition and was rebuilt by the BMC. Only after a fortnight of its opening, the bridge has developed potholes creating a problem for those who travel on road.
To fix the issue, the BMC has distributed 1,150 tonnes of 'cold mix' this year and has instructed the concerned departments to attend the complaints immediately.
