On July 3, Wednesday, amidst accusations of not being ready for rains, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) claimed that civic officials were working 24 hours and had pumped out 13,694 million litres of water at six pumping stations.
To put the claim into perspective, the water drained by the BMC is close to the combined capacity of Tulsi and Vihar lakes which holds 14,309 million litre of water.
According to the municipal corporation, as the rainfall in the city began at 12.49 am on Tuesday, the seven zonal deputy municipal commissioners and 24 ward officers were called and asked to monitor the situation in their areas and take necessary action.

While the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and civic officials have evaded the responsibility, experts have blamed an unfinished drainage project for the chaos the city faces annually because of heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, a BMC official stated that all the officers were asked to go through the information and suggestions received on the civic body's Twitter handle to resolve issues that the people were facing.
