Mumbai witnessed a rise in searches on the internet for drinking water and water tanker services during the peak summer months, according to a report by Justdial. The report found that the city recorded the highest growth in water-related service searches in the country as residents looked for alternative water sources during a deepening water crisis.
As per a report by Mid-Day, the report compared search trends between March-April 2026 and May-June 2026. It found that searches for drinking water services in Mumbai increased by 94.57 per cent between March-April and May-June. This was much higher than the national increase of 33.07 per cent during the same period.
Searches for water tanker services in Mumbai also increased. The rise in tanker service searches reflected the demand for other water sources as pressure increased during the summer.
The demand continued to grow even after May. Between May and June 2026, Mumbai recorded a further 46.21 per cent increase in searches for drinking water services. At the national level, the report noted a strong increase in interest for water-related services as several parts of the country faced water shortages.
Queries for water services in the country shot up by 33.07 per cent and 50.35 per cent for water tanker services. The report also said that digital platforms are becoming the preferred option for people searching for important services during seasonal stress.
The findings also pointed to reliance on search platforms for access to drinking water suppliers and water tanker operators. According to the report, people are using digital platforms to find reliable water services and meet their immediate water requirements.
In Mumbai, the searches suggested that many residents relied on water from other sources for their day to day needs as water availability came under greater pressure during the summer.
