Corporators from the Samajwadi Party in Mumbai have demanded that key commercial hubs such as Lower Parel, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), and parts of South Mumbai be allowed to operate 24 hours a day under a structured night-time economy model.
In a letter addressed to the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner, they proposed launching a pilot project to officially permit round-the-clock operations in these business districts. The corporators argued that although Mumbai is known as a city that never sleeps, many commercial areas are not formally open throughout the night.
They believe that implementing a regulated 24/7 model, with proper guidelines for safety, traffic management, noise control, waste disposal, and licensing would boost tourism, hospitality, small businesses, and cultural activities while generating employment and increasing municipal revenue.
They also pointed to international cities that have successfully adopted similar night-time economy frameworks.
