Mumbai: School principal asked to resign for posting about Palestine-Israel conflict

The headmistress of Mumbai's Somaiya School has been asked to resign by the school management for posting about the Palestine-Israel conflict on the social media platform X. The name of this headmistress is Parveen Shaikh. She has been working in this school for the past 12 years and has been the principal of the school for the past 7 years. Meanwhile, she refused to resign from his post and said that she has given 100 percent effort for the development of this school.

According to a report by 'The Indian Express', a website published reports that Parveen Sheikh had liked and commented on posts showing sympathy for Palestine and Hamas in the past few days. After this news, the school management called Parveen Shaikh and asked her to resign. The school management also told her that this decision is difficult for them.

Speaking about this, the school management asked me to resign in a meeting held on April 26 after this news was published on April 24. They also told me that this decision is difficult for them. Even after that I continued to work for the next few days. However, after that I am being pressured to resign, said Parveen Shaikh. She also responded that she lives in a democratic India and she has freedom of expression.

Somaiya School has no policy against public comment on political topics. In a meeting held in March, it was clarified that employees are allowed to express their views on their social media accounts, she added.
