Mumbai: Teen dies during Ganpati immersion at Juhu Chowpatty

Celebrations for Ganpati’s immersion came to a screeching halt. A shocking incident took place at Juhu beach when a minor boy was washed away at 4:15 pm, as per the report by Mid Day.

It was raining heavily and many volunteers had come to help police to control the crowd. Hassan Yusuf Shaikh (16), a minor boy, was one of them. The lifeguards saw him drowning and took him out. As he was injured, he was sent to Cooper Hospital. However, the Assistant Medical Officer of Cooper Hospital Dr. Devidas Walke declared Hasan Yusuf Shaikh dead.

By 6pm, a total of 7,950 idols had been immersed, comprising 7,513 household ones, 329 'sarvajanik' or public idols and 108 of goddess Gauri, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said.
