As New Year’s eve approaches, the Mumbai policeThane and Navi Mumbai police have also ramped up its security and surveillance plan to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.

This move comes as massive crowds gather across party hubs, malls, religious events, tourist hotspots and residential areas every year. 

The celebrations at various hotels, restaurants and malls are likely to continue till the wee hours of Thursday, January 1.

Arrangements by Mumbai Police:

Over 17,000 police personnel have been deployed as a part of elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order during the New Year celebrations.

Large gatherings are expected at prominent places in the city, including the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Bandra Bandstand, Juhu and Versova beaches.

Nakabandi (police checkposts) will be set up at key locations, important roads, and patrolling on streets will be intensified.

A massive security force comprising 10 Additional Commissioners of Police, 38 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 61 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 2,790 police officers and 14,200 police personnel.

In addition, specialised units, including State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) platoons, quick response teams (QRTs), bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS), RCP platoons and home guards, will be stationed at sensitive and high-footfall locations.

Moreover, the Mumbai Traffic Police will also be deployed in large numbers to manage congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Thane Police Beefs Up Security 

Thane police have also rolled out an extensive enforcement drive for New Year celebrations, deploying 739 traffic personnel, including 59 officers, and setting up road blockades at 54 strategic points across the city, PTI reported.

Intensive checks will be carried out at identified hotspots such as Yeur, Upvan, Durgadi, Katai Naka, Mumbra and Ranjanoli Naka, with 51 breath analyser machines in use to curb drunk driving, the report added.

Authorities as per the report, warned of strict action against traffic violations, noise nuisance and unruly behaviour, while bars, hotels and farmhouses have been directed to ensure patrons do not drive under the influence. Citizens have been advised to seek immediate help through police helplines 100 or 112, as officials stress that public cooperation is crucial to ensuring a safe and incident-free New Year.

Navi Mumbai Police Focus on Drug-Free:

Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe while speaking to news agency PTI said, police have been deployed in form of fix points, patrolling, naka bandis, and some discrete way.

There is zero tolerance about narcotics, so anybody planning any kind of rave party would be strictly acted upon.

For Frink and drive, there will be organising nakabandi at multiple location and the breathe analyser test, so anybody under the influence of alcohol should not drive the car himself or herself and should use driver or public trransport.

"We will especially monitor the safety of women, children, and the elderly so that they can enjoy the celebrations. We will also be keeping focus on hotels and farmhouse where there are celebrations organised, so that people enjoy and at the same time maintain security," said officials.
