The Mumbai Traffic Police has issued a temporary notification imposing restrictions, including road closures and no parking, in several parts of the city till January 16 in the wake of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
The restrictions are aimed at facilitating the distribution and collection of electronic voting machines (EVMs) as well as counting.
For the smooth conduct of the election process, distribution of EVM units will be carried out from Bajaj School, Bajaj Road, Kandivali (West), Mumbai for polling stations in R/South Ward Nos. 19 to 31, and from Township Municipal School, Marve Road, Malvani, Malad (West), Mumbai for polling stations in P/North Ward Nos. 32 to 35 and 46 to 49.
Further, after completion of polling, the EVM units will be deposited for security purposes in the Strong Room established at Malvani Township C.B.S.C. School, opposite Asmita Jyoti Society, Malad (West), Mumbai, and the counting of votes will be carried out at the said centre on January 16.
Therefore, from the traffic management point of view, as a precautionary measure to ensure proper regulation of traffic in the said area, a decision has been taken to temporarily prohibit the movement of vehicles, other than those engaged in election duties, on the roads mentioned below.
1. Duration of Restrictions
From 05:00 hours on 14/01/2026 to 24:00 hours (midnight) on 16/01/2026.
2. Road Closure
Vasanji Lalji Road (from Matoshree Zhunka Bhakar Kendra to Chandresh Wine Shop)
Bajaj Road (from S.V. Road junction to Bajaj School)
Bajaj Cross Road No. 1 (from Samrat Building to Super Shopping Complex / Top-10 Shop)
Marve Road - northbound carriageway towards Madh (from the Kachcha Road up to Bafhira Junction)
3. Alternative Routes
Take a right turn from Pravin Sanghvi Road and proceed via Nehru Road to use S.V. Road.
Take a left turn from Narayan Joshi Road and proceed via the station area and Dalvi Road to use S.V. Road.
Use the Southbound carriageway of Marve Road.In connection with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation General Elections 2025–2026, and in order to ensure the smooth conduct of the election process, it has been decided, from the point of view of traffic safety and proper traffic regulation, to temporarily close the movement of vehicles other than those engaged in election-related duties within the jurisdiction of the Oshiwara Traffic Division, from 14/01/2026 to 16/01/2026, on both carriageways of Veera Desai Road, from J.P. Road Junction up to Mogra Nala, near J.P. Road, Azad Nagar, close to the Metro Station, Andheri (West), Mumbai, falling under Ward Nos. 59 to 71, K/West Division. The traffic of vehicles other than those engaged in election-related work shall remain temporarily closed.

From 07:00 a.m. on 14/01/2026 to 22:00 p.m. on 16/01/2026.
No Entry:
Veera Desai Road (from J.P. Road Junction to Mogra Nala) and (from Mogra Nala to J.P. Road Junction)
Alternative:
All vehicles approaching via the southbound carriageway on Veera Desai Road shall take a right or left turn at Courtyard Junction and proceed via Chitrakut Junction – New Link Road.
The election office and strong room are located at New Sion Municipal School near Lion Tarachand Bappa Hospital in Sion. Vehicles carrying polling materials will arrive at the site on Tuesday at 6 pm, and post-polling, electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be deposited back at the strong room.
