The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be carrying out cross-connection work on the 2400 mm diameter Upper Vaitarna water pipeline in the K-East ward.

Owing to this, the water supply in as many as five municipal wards in central mumbai and the eastern and western suburbs will witness low water pressure for three days.

This work will be conducted from 9 am on Tuesday, January 20, to 5 am on Thursday, January 22. This extensive 44-hour operation will disrupt water supply to several important suburbs of Mumbai.

The officials said that owing to ongoing Metro works, the main waterway channel was diverted in a new direction. Authorities will now join the newly laid water channel with the existing network to ensure there is no continued disruption in water supply.

List of areas to be affected:

  • Dharavi, Dadar, Mahim and Matunga in G North ward
  • Marol, Chakala, Airport Road and Sahar in K East ward in Andheri East
  • Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg and Bhandup in S ward
  • Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Santacruz in H East ward
  • Ghatkopar area in N ward.

The officials also said there will be changes in the regular water supply during these three days; however, the timings will be informed a day in advance. It is also been advised to store sufficient water and use water cautiously.

As a precautionary measure, citizens have also been advised to boil and filter drinking water for the next few days.
