Mumbai’s seven lakes have reached 95.53% of their combined capacity, but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to continue the 10% water cut in the city.
The rise in reservoir levels has eased concerns over Mumbai’s water supply, with the lakes receiving substantial inflows during the monsoon. However, the civic body is taking a cautious approach and has decided not to withdraw the water restrictions yet.
The BMC wants to ensure that adequate water reserves are maintained for the months ahead. Officials will continue to monitor rainfall, inflows into the lakes and the overall water stock before taking a decision on lifting the 10% cut.
Despite the reservoirs being close to full capacity, the continuation of the water cut highlights the civic administration’s focus on maintaining sufficient reserves and avoiding a possible shortage in the future.
