Mumbai’s expanding metro network is set to improve travel across the city, but it has also created a growing need for proper two-wheeler parking near metro stations.
To solve this issue, the BMC has started planning dedicated parking spaces to improve last-mile connectivity for commuters.
Under the guidance of BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, officials are exploring options such as vacant plots, roadside areas, and multi-level parking facilities in busy locations. The plan mainly focuses on two-wheelers, which are commonly used for short-distance travel in Mumbai.
The move is also expected to reduce traffic congestion and haphazard parking around metro stations. Improved parking facilities can make metro travel more convenient and help more people choose public transport over private vehicles.
Civic authorities are working with metro agencies and traffic police to identify suitable spots and create a smoother transport system. Experts believe strong last-mile connectivity will play a key role as Mumbai’s metro network continues to expand alongside other major infrastructure projects across the city.
