Mumbai has witnessed a slight respite since this weekend after an extremely hot and humid conditions and heatwave alert.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Santacruz and Colaba observatory recorded 35.3 and 31.8 degrees Celsius respectively on Monday, March 3.

On Tuesday, March 4, the minimum temperatures were recorded at 20.6 and 24.2 degrees Celsius at Santacruz and Colaba observatory respectively. Meanwhile the daytime temperature was hovering around 32 degrees.

However, this relief is expected to be short-lived. The weather department has predicted another temperature increase, potentially reaching 37 to 38 degrees Celsius over the coming weekend.

It is pertinent to note that while the temperatures remained above normal, it marked a significant drop from the previous week, when maximum temperatures reached an eight-year high of 38.7 degrees Celsius on February 26.

For at least three consecutive days during that week, temperatures in the city exceeded 38 degrees Celsius, prompting the IMD to issue a heatwave alert for the coastal region.

In its seven-day forecast bulletin, the IMD has stated that the maximum temperatures will remain around 34-35 degrees Celsius this week. Following which a significant spike is imminent with daytime temperatures could rising above 37 degrees Celsius starting March 7.
