The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a large-scale redevelopment and beautification plan around the Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi. The project will take place in three phases and will be supervised by the G North and G South wards.

The work will cover important areas like Dadar, Mahim, Dharavi, Worli, and parts of Lower Parel. The goal is to improve infrastructure and make things easier for the visitors who come to the temple every day.

A senior BMC official said the plan will improve safety, appearance, and movement for devotees. However, there will be no changes to the sanctum or internal structure of the temple. Work is expected to begin later this month, once final approval is received from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).

The first phase alone will cost over INR 100 crore. The first phase will mainly focus on reducing traffic and upgrading the outside area. Two underground parking lots are planned to ease roadside parking problems. The main entrance, Siddhi Gate, will be redesigned with marble carvings and a new roof canopy. The flooring across the complex will also be replaced.

The second phase will focus on improving safety and visitor comfort. A special facilitation centre will be built to manage crowds and make entry smoother. More security checkpoints will be added. A second entrance, called Riddhi Gate, will be constructed on Kakasaheb Gadgil Marg. The two entry points are named after Riddhi and Siddhi, who are the consorts of Lord Ganesha.

However, the underground parking plans overlap with metro infrastructure. So, the project can only begin after MMRC gives its final approval. The BMC has already made changes based on MMRC’s suggestions and expects approval within 15 to 20 days.

Once the green signal is received, BMC will finalise the schedule and start the tendering process. The entire project is expected to be completed within 12 months after the official start.
