The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), along with the Navi Mumbai Police Crime Branch, has uncovered an alleged racket involving the alteration of expiry and manufacturing dates on packaged food products. During raids conducted from August 24 to 29 at Sadhana Enterprises in the Turbhe TTC Industrial Area, officials seized food products estimated to be worth ₹75.52 lakh.
Officials suspect the practice was aimed at extending the shelf life of expired or near-expiry products and putting them back into the market. The seized stock included popular packaged-food products such as Maggi noodles, Lay’s, Kurkure and Fun Flips, besides various ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook items.
The FDA has initiated legal action and is examining the seized products as part of its investigation. Authorities are also probing the distribution network to identify other individuals or businesses that may have been involved in the alleged racket.
Food safety officials said tampering with expiry information is a serious violation, as consumers could unknowingly purchase and consume products that are no longer safe or suitable for consumption.
