The much-loved Palm Beach road in Navi Mumbai, which is teeming with flamingos and other foreign visitors, has water bodies and a wide scenic bay, will be opened for sports enthusiasts every Sunday morning at a fixed time from New Year.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde has sent a proposal in this regard to Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe. Accordingly, one lane on Palm Beach Road will be open for cyclists, runners every Sunday morning from 5 to 10 am. During this period, the route will also be open for those who want to do other sports here. During this period, a method is being planned so that the residents living in the surrounding area do not face any hindrance in their travel.
Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai has always been an attraction for travelers. Between Moraj Circle in Vashi and Belapur, the headquarters of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, this eight-kilometer route sees a procession of bicycles and runners every day. The number of runners opting for this route for regular practice is quite large in view of the Mumbai Marathon which is held on the third Sunday of January every year.

During the winter season, the number of tourists who come to see the nature of the water bodies here is also very large. Cycling or running for a distance of 16 kilometers on both sides of this route is a favorite option of many. Separate training classes are also conducted by several running coaches at the Navi Mumbai adjacent to this route as well as at the municipal headquarters. The response to it has recently started attracting a large segment of people who are turning to health through sports culture.
Considering the importance of Palm Beach Road, Commissioner Dr. Shinde has started testing whether this road can be opened only for sports and health promotion on Sundays at certain times and Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe has also approved this proposal.
How will the planning be?
A lane on Palm Beach Road will be opened for runners, cyclists and walkers every Sunday from 5am to 10am. During this period, the vehicles on this route will be continued by arranging a divider on the other route, informed the sources. It is said that a preliminary proposal is being discussed with the Navi Mumbai Police in this regard.
Talking to Loksatta, Dr. Shinde expressed the belief that the municipal corporation is trying to implement this planning from the month of January and it will be a celebration for sports lovers not only in Navi Mumbai but in different parts of the entire metropolitan region. The Commissioner of Police of Navi Mumbai is positive to this proposal and he clarified that the previous purpose of the resolution is to give lessons on sports culture and health in an important road in the city.
