After the monsoon, dried mud accumulated along roadsides has slightly increased dust levels in Navi Mumbai. To tackle this, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched an intensive cleanliness drive under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. Using brush and flipper machines, the civic body is clearing and removing settled dust and soil from roads and footpaths.

Under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), the NMMC is deploying five advanced dust suppression vehicles to reduce airborne dust. These vehicles spray a fine mist of water along busy roads such as Thane-Belapur Road, Amra Marg, Airoli MIDC roads, and Palm Beach Road, helping settle dust particles in the air. The vehicles also clean road dividers and footpaths using treated water from the city’s sewage treatment plants.

Each vehicle operates in three shifts, 7 AM to 3 PM, 3 PM to 11 PM, and 11 PM to 7 AM ensuring round-the-clock cleaning across all wards as per a set schedule.

These vehicles not only suppress PM10 and PM2.5 dust particles through fogging but also wash trees and greenery along medians, helping remove carbon and dust deposits. Through these sustained efforts, the NMMC aims to maintain better air quality and ensure a cleaner environment across Navi Mumbai.
