Every year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) provides Railways with crores of rupees for the work of cleaning nullahs in the Railway premises. Although the fund is provided to clean the culverts between the tracks, the Railways does not bother cleaning them. In response to this, NCP leader Rakhi Jadhav questioned about cleaning the nullahs and demanded that no further funds should be provided to Railways for cleaning nullahs.

Jadhav made the demand when the proposal for approval of granting funds for the repairs of the culverts was put forward by the railway authorities in front of the Standing Committee. She said that every year Railways is given funds to clean the nullahs between the railway tracks but there are no signs of cleaning the nullahs. Along with this, she added that the transport administration hasn’t spent money and due to which there hasn’t been an audit regarding the same.

Opposition leader Ravi Raja demanded that if BMC is giving money to the Railways, then the work and expenditure should be audited. Meanwhile, Additional Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said that the Railway has received information about it and it will be given to all the members. The proposal was then approved by the Standing Committee Chairman Yashwant Jadhav.

Every year, the Railways fails to clean the nullahs between the tracks which is the major reason for waterlogging near the tracks during monsoon. So, isn’t it the responsibility of Railways to ensure that the nullahs get cleaned at regular intervals?
