Mumbai - BMC workers are an unhappy lot. The BMC says it given a Diwali bonus of Rs 14,000 bonus to each employee, which is Rs 500 over the previous year's amount. The workers however have another story to tell. There are five to six workers' unions in the municipal corporation and workers have had to contribute sums of Rs 100 to Rs 500 to each, for which they have been issued receipts. In addition, the Rs 14000 that they have received is taxable, so that the employees have taken home just about Rs 12500, accounting for all deductions. Is it truly a happy Diwali, ask civic employees.
