Price of onions in the state is again on a rise. Till about a week ago, the onions were retailing for INR 20-25 per kg but now the prices have shot up to INR 70 per kg. According to the vegetable wholesalers, the prices of onions can touch INR100 per kg in the coming days.

The prices of onion have been impacted due to the unseasonal rain in the area.  Last week, there was heavy rainfall in many parts of the country including Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. As a result of this, there was flooding in many parts,

The rain not just impacted the day to day working but also the onion crops and as a result the prices have shot up. Prices of other vegetables have also escalated in the last week but the percentage increase is not as much as that witnessed by onions.

The price could rise further in a few days as there is a huge demand and lack of supply from other States.

The increase in the prices of vegetables especially onions during this festive period has irked consumers. People have been dealing with a lot of hardships ever since the lockdown was announced and the increased price of essential commodities has added to their woes.
