Residents of Panvel can now request home delivery of liquor/alcohol via a message on WhatsApp or a phone call. In a recent announcement, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has permitted home delivery of liquor within its jurisdiction from May 19, 2020, except in the containment zones. However, the sale of liquor is still prohibited at the shops directly

PMC's Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh issued a circular on Tuesday allowing home delivery of liquor but with some restrictions and has also issued guidelines which need to be followed strictly while accepting orders and delivery. One of it states that liquor orders cannot be taken after 5 pm and shop owners must also make sure that no one consumes alcohol near the shops.

If needed, shop owners can put contact details outside their shops to receive orders and can accept them via WhatsApp and phone calls. Cash on delivery option can be provided in order to avoid fraud, and shop owners cannot charge customers anything more than MRP for home delivery. Employees must have an identity card and thermal screening report with them at all times as this has been made mandatory. To ensure safety, they will also have to wear hand gloves and carry sanitizers at all times.

Addressing the same, Deshmukh, in a statement, said that in case any shopkeeper is found selling alcohol in the store as counter sale, officials will be asked to take strict actions and they may seal the shops if needed
