Panvel station will become a long-distance train terminal by the end of 2026. The Panvel Terminus project is moving forward with faster renovation work at the yards. The combined effort with the Kalamboli yard will create more space for train movement and operations.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the site on Tuesday, May 6. He inspected the yard renovation work and confirmed the plan to turn Panvel into a terminal for long-distance trains.

This is part of a larger plan to improve rail infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The current yard is being fully redesigned. New railway lines are being added. This will help with better train handling and smooth connection with the Dedicated Freight Corridor.

As per sources, the new terminal will reduce the burden on existing stations across Mumbai. It will also improve travel options for people in the growing Panvel area.

The Panvel Terminus will include a home platform, an island platform, and space for passenger movement. The platforms will be built to handle 26-coach trains. A new station building covering 1500 square metres will be built. It will include other facilities and a foot overbridge.

The Kalamboli coaching hub will include a repair shed that is 130 metres long and 10 metres wide. There will be two stabling lines, four washing and pit lines, and entry and exit lines for long trains. A third railway line will connect Panvel Terminus with the Kalamboli complex. This link will not affect regular train traffic.

Panvel station currently lacks many basic services. The road leading to the station is often blocked by autorickshaws, especially during busy hours. Some passengers are charged INR 200 to INR 500 even for short trips. This creates problems for those walking or using private vehicles.
