Chembur fire: Tilak Nagar police register FIR against the builder

On Thursday evening, five senior citizens died when a massive fire broke out on the 10th floor of Sargam Society in Chembur. The level-1 fire was reported around 7:51 pm and around 8:42 pm, the fire escalated to level-3. Though firefighters were successful in dousing the fire, five were brought dead to the hospital and two were injured.

Angry residents have filed a complaint against builder Hemant Mafra at Tilak Nagar police station. Residents claimed that the builder had not obtained No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department. Along with this, firefighters claimed that fire systems were non-functional in the high-rise building.

Residents said that they had informed the same to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s fire brigade department but the civic body ignored them.

Total seven casualties were reported out of which 5 were brought dead:-

  • Sunita Joshi- 72 yrs
  • Bhalchandra Joshi- 72 yrs
  • Suman Shrinivas Joshi- 83 yrs
  • Sarala Suresh Gangar- 52 yrs
  • Lakshmiben Premji Gangar- 83 yrs

  • Shrinivas Joshi- 86 yrs
  • Chagan Singh- 28 yrs (fireman) admitted, condition stable
