The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to use mastic asphalt technology to make roads in Mumbai’s western suburbs pothole-free before and after the monsoon season. For the project, the civic body will spend nearly INR 7.40 crore.
Under Zone-4, potholes on roads in the K/West (Andheri, Juhu, Versova, Oshiwara), P/South (Goregaon) and P/North (Malad West) wards will be repaired using mastic asphalt, which is considered more durable and suitable for heavy traffic conditions.
The BMC has floated an e-tender worth INR 3.52 crore for repairing potholes on roads less than 9 metres wide, including lanes and internal roads that are less than 6 metres wide.
In addition, a separate tender worth INR 3.88 crore has been issued for repairing major roads that are more than 9 metres wide.
The civic administration said the work is being undertaken to reduce traffic congestion, accidents and inconvenience caused to citizens due to pothole-ridden roads during the monsoon season.
According to officials, the use of mastic asphalt technology on both internal and main roads in the western suburbs is expected to improve road durability and provide longer-lasting repairs.
