Work on Phase 2 of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will begin after the monsoon season this year. For this, the Adani group has made an investment of ₹30,000 crores.
This development comes as the airlines have exhausted all available slots, Adani Group chief financial Officer Jugeshinder Singh said, underlining strong demand for the new aviation hub.
Within 19 days of starting operations on December 25, with restricted flight operations, NMIA hit the 100,000 passenger mark on January 12.
From a 12-hour operation, NMIA is shifting to a 24-hour operation. International flights are scheduled to commence in the June quarter of 2027 from the greenfield airport.
The second phase of development will include a second runway and terminal, with enhanced passenger and cargo handling capacities that will position NMIA as a key aviation hub of western India.
It will include the passenger Terminal 2, which will add capacity for 30 million passengers, a major cargo terminal, and India’s largest maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility with five large hangars.
Terminal 2 is expected to be ready by 2029. All 4 terminals would be ready by 2035-36.
Automated People Movers (APMs) will be made to connect all 4 terminals with each other.
There will be 4 terminals in total with a combined capacity of 90 MPPA (Million Passengers Per Annum):
• Terminal-1: 20 MPPA
• Terminal-2: 30 MPPA
• Terminal-3: 20 MPPA
• Terminal-4: 20 MPPA
