No tiffins for Mumbaikars on Tuesday

On the occasion of Kartiki Ekadashi, Mumbai’s dabbawalas will be leaving for Alandi on December 3, Monday evening. Hence, Mumbai Dabbawala Association will be keeping their tiffin services shut on December 4, Tuesday. For one day, Mumbaikars will have find alternate means for lunch. 

On December 3, after delivering tiffins to Mumbaikars, dabbawalas will leave for Alandi. They will break their fast the second day. Mumbai Dabbawala Association president Vilas Shinde has asked Mumbaikars to understand their sentiments and to co-operate with them.

In the month of May, Mumbai dabbawalas started delivering couriers and parcels in addition to their current job of delivering tiffins in the city. Currently, over 5000 people are involved in the delivery of two lakh tiffin boxes in Mumbai.
