Mumbai: Six killed, one injured in chawl collapse in Mankhurd

Several people are feared trapped after a multi-storey chawl collapsed in Mumbai's Mankhurd area on Sunday evening amid heavy monsoon rains. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm, prompting an immediate rescue operation by emergency teams.

As per the new update by the BMC, six have been killed, one got injured in chawl collapse in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area amid heavy rains.

Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), police, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the site. Rescue workers are using heavy equipment to clear the debris and search for those believed to be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

The collapse comes as Mumbai continues to experience intense rainfall, leading to widespread waterlogging and raising concerns over the safety of ageing buildings across the city.
