This Raksha Bandhan, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road celebrated the spirit of protection in a meaningful and unconventional way. Moving beyond the traditional celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters, the hospital extended the message of ‘Suraksha’ (protection) to street vendors and small traders who face the challenges of heavy monsoon rains while earning their daily livelihood.

As part of a special Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road distributed 300 large umbrellas to vendors across the Mira Road–Bhayandar region. The initiative was designed around the theme “Raksha Bandhan – Suraksha from Monsoon”, providing practical protection from rain while helping vendors continue their daily work.

For many street vendors, the monsoon can mean long hours of standing in the rain, damaged goods and loss of daily income. The 300 large umbrellas will provide protection to vendors as well as their merchandise, helping them continue their business with greater safety and dignity.

Dr. Sushil Kumar, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, said, “Raksha Bandhan is traditionally a celebration of protection and affection. This year, we wanted to take that message beyond the family and extend it to the community around us. Through this initiative, we are trying to provide ‘Suraksha from Monsoon’ to vendors who work outdoors every day and whose livelihoods are directly affected by the rains.”

He added, “An umbrella may appear to be a simple gesture, but for someone who depends on outdoor work for their daily income, it can make a meaningful difference. By distributing 300 umbrellas, we hope to provide practical support to vendors and help them continue their livelihoods despite challenging weather conditions. Our aim is to celebrate festivals in a way that creates a positive and practical impact on society.”

The vendors welcomed the initiative and appreciated the hospital's thoughtful gesture. For them, the umbrellas offer not only protection from the monsoon but also support in continuing their daily livelihood despite challenging weather conditions.

The initiative reflects Wockhardt Hospitals Mira Road’s commitment to community welfare and demonstrates how traditional festivals can be transformed into opportunities for meaningful social responsibility.
