The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has proposed financial assistance of INR 10 lakh and a contractual job for an eligible family member of Pandurang Bhuvad, who died after a tree collapsed on him during heavy rainfall earlier this month. The proposal will be placed before the General Body for approval on July 20.

Bhuvad, a resident of Dharmaveer Nagar, sustained critical head injuries when a tree collapsed near the RTO office in Louiswadi during heavy rain on July 7. He was admitted to Mahavir Jain Hospital in Hajuri, where he underwent surgery for a brain haemorrhage but succumbed to his injuries on July 9.

According to the civic administration, Bhuvad was the family's sole breadwinner, and his death has left his financially vulnerable family without a source of income. Citing humanitarian grounds, the administration has proposed a INR 10 lakh ex gratia payment along with a contractual appointment in the municipal corporation for one eligible dependent, based on educational qualifications.

The expenditure will be met from the TMC's Emergency Medical Treatment Fund, after receiving the Municipal Commissioner's approval.
